If you are travelling from the north,
east or west, firstly make your way to Foxdale. Drive through Foxdale and head
south (Castletown/airport direction). The road out of Foxdale is a steep hill,
keep going all the way to the top. As the road starts to level take your next
right turn, this is signed for Port Erin. Proceed along the road until you reach
Rushen Mines on your right hand side. The mine stack is clearly visible. At this
point turn right over the cattle grid.
If travelling from
the south go into the centre of Colby village until you see the village clock on
the bridge. Take the road along side the clock, (Colby Glen Road) proceed all
the way to the crossroads at the very top of the hill just past south Barrule.
At these crossroads turn right follow the road straight ahead until you see
Rushen Mines stack on the left at this point take the left turn over the cattle
grid.
Once over the cattle grid follow the road a short distance and take
the next left turn onto Glen Rushen Road. Continue all the way down the hill at
the very bottom of the hill. The road has a sharp left turn down a track, the
pipeline is at the end. Occasionally the sections are at the end of the road, if
this is the case instead of turning left to the sections continue straight
ahead. There is a picnic area at the very end of the road this is where the
sections will be located.
Terrain
This area is mainly used as part of the run around series, also
popular with the Two Day Trial and the Classic Two Day. There is a river area
and a gully that are both usually used for the sections. The edge of Arrasey
plantation is usually used also.
Parking and Accessibility
The parking is on the roadside. This can be narrow, so choose
carefully where to park. When the trial is near the picnic area there is a small
car park. Spectators can access the sections easily. Parking is possibly the
only down fall, however when you are at the bottom of the hill the left turn
leads you to ample parking. The only problem has been this is a difficult left
turn so be warned.
